Book Tour & Giveaway: An Unconventional Mr. Peadlebody by D. L. Gardner

An Unconventional Mr. Peadlebody
by D.L. Gardner
Genre: Paranormal Humor

Rockford Peadlebody dies in a train wreck while traveling with his family, (a rather dysfunctional lot of half-blood vampires) after a flood in Mississippi washes their home away. Once his brother Gerald, his wife Ginger, and son Raymond reach grandpa's estate in Ohio, they are surprised by the news that grandaddy Benjamin Peadlebody has also died. They are now heirs to the infamous Peadlebody manor and all its peculiarities, including the butler, a reserved, tattooed, muscle-man named Richard Cottlebone,

It seems fishy to Gerald that two untimely deaths in the family happened within a week. Yes, Rockford's demise was of his own doing, but Benjamin's? Perhaps the butler, knows more than he's letting on?

To prove himself worthy, since he failed to live up to old Benjamin's standards when he was alive, Gerald goes about to unravel the thread of Papa's death. No help comes from Ginger. She's too busy trying to un-vampire herself. And Raymond is in love, but not with his relatives. Gerald soon discovers solving a murder mystery meets with a stone cold reception.

With a passion for a good wholesome story, Gardner dives into the adult and young adult fantasy genres. She is both a best selling author and an award winning illustrator who lives in the Pacific Northwest, USA. Dabbling in screenwriting, she's won screenings and a trophy for some of her film projects.

She loves a tale that ignites imaginations, strengthens friendships, spurs courage and applauds honor. Though she targets her stories for young adults, her books are enjoyed by all ages.

D.L. Gardner is a columnist for the science fiction and fantasy publication Amazing Stories Magazine

Book Tour & Giveaway; The Dear Departed by Anne Roebuck

The Dear Departed
by Anne Roebuck
Genre: Historical Paranormal Romance

The widows of Victorian era San Francisco are dying of decidedly unnatural causes, and to expose the culprit Virginia Paley must partner with the darkly mysterious Jonathan Bradshaw, entering a world of occult rituals and unexplainable phenomena—and magical love.

BEYOND THE VEIL

Young widow Virginia Paley has no interest in attending the séances at The Society for Eternal Love, but the women of the society are dying mysteriously in their sleep, leaving their fortunes to Professor Arthur Chadwick, its charismatic medium. As her aunt might very well become the next victim, Virginia will do whatever she must to ensure that doesn’t happen. She will even join forces with the darkly mysterious Jonathan Bradshaw.

From the moment he spies her, Jonathan is smitten. But romance is impossible. Mrs. Paley is a respectable woman, and he himself is outside of society, an orphan, an ex-thief and a true wizard, able to hypnotize with a word and even separate his spirit from his body. No, he must instead remain focused on his goal, avenging his mentor’s death. But, facing a foe with power over demonic forces and Virginia’s very life in the balance, love might indeed be the only salvation.

From my first poem at age 10 and my first short story at age 12, I can’t help writing about my two favorite things – magic and love. An unrepentant nerd, I started out in biomedical research but ended up writing software manuals instead. I spent many years as a member of science fiction and historical reenactment groups and I have been at various times a Renaissance scholar, a druidess, a pirate wench, a saloon floozy, a belly dancer and a chain-mail wearing warrior maiden.

Still, my first love is writing stories. It doesn’t matter whether the story is set in the middle ages, Victorian times, the present day or far in the future. If it has both love and magic in it, I will write about it. I write not only romance but young adult historical fantasy under the name of Ann Finnin.

I'm a native of Southern California, and I live in the hills above Los Angeles with my husband of forty years, Dave (a man who gave me an electric typewriter as a wedding present) and a dog of Indeterminate Breed named Rufus.

My Favourite... Romance Story

It's Wednesday and time for a new My Favourite... post, thanks to the blogger behind Maureen's Books and the theme of the week is favourite romance story.

For those who know me well enough, I doubt it will be no shocker that my answer is Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, because sometimes all one need is a certain Mr. Darcy.

A lonely Korean pop star learns her high school classmate died five years ago. So why are they still texting?

Book Description:

Yubin knows she’s different than the other girls in the pop group SIITY. Yes, they all got sucked into the same machine, giving up schooling and signing ridiculously long contracts before anyone knew if they'd be successful, but that's how pop stars are made in Korea. Yubin is supposed to be thankful for that, but she isn't. She doesn't even like the girls she performs with.

She’s more connected to her former schoolmate Jieun, even though all they ever do is text. Over the last two months, Jieun has become her confidant and best friend, connecting Yubin to the real world in a way she desperately needs. Now that SIITY is going to appear on the reality show The Incredible Race: Asia, Yubin will need that connection more than ever, which is why she’s devastated to discover Jieun has been dead five years and is actually haunting her.

If that weren’t enough, Yubin’s not the only SIITY member with issues. Rena’s father is emotionally abusive. Somi has a learning disability, and after a near death experience, Tae-eun becomes a nine-tailed fox woman. The only way they’ll survive the show, each other, and the supernatural currents buffeting them is to work together and win the hearts of their fans. Because if they don’t, they have nothing to go back to even if they survive what's trying to kill them.

Excerpt 1 (361 words)

Tae-eun

She pulled her long sleeved t-shirt over the top of her head and cast it to the ground. She stood in the moonlight, stripped to her bare feet and her chest as uncovered as the day she was born. The air was cold. Her body shivered. Once again, a human thought intruded. What if someone sees me?
“Fuck it” she said aloud, and pushed herself through the transformation. It was as if nature required her to pass through a blacksmith's fire each time she changed, although the process was no more painful to her than it must be for a nugget of iron which lacked a proper nervous system when forged into something useful. Waves of transforming muscle formed lumps beneath her skin that flattened into steady plateaus with thick veins that bulged at their ridges. As with the spirits of such objects that no doubt felt disoriented when their material bodies were given new form, Tae-eun felt dizziness as the pulses of red feverish heat gushed through her veins. For just a moment she thought she was going to sick up. Her pink pajama bottoms ripped as her waist became thicker, and fluffy bushy tails punched through the seat of her bottoms.
"Crap!" she said but the sound was a guttural fusion of speech and snarl. If anyone had seen her, her wide gaping mouth would have seemed a contortion of hell spawned agony. There was none. The horrid face that distorted her usually enchanting features was a completely involuntary manifestation of her flesh stretching to accommodate a much larger skeleton, and human teeth elongating into a muzzle full of vulpine fangs.
Now, standing almost two and a half meters tall, the first stage of transformation was complete. She gripped the side of the outhouse with a massive clawed hand that had doubled in size. Fur covered her from head to toe, in shades that blended from white, to red, to gold and black. She thought she should try stabilizing herself, but then realized that she no longer felt feverish or dizzy. She'd like to know why it was necessary to change into the fox woman before the fox.

Omtale; Nærhet i tastenes tid av Kristine Storli Henningsen

(Inneholder affiliate linker)

Book Blogger Hop; Author-Only Thanksgiving Party

It's Friday and time for a new Book Blogger Hop post, thanks to Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer. The question of the week was "If you had an author-only Thanksgiving party, who would you invite?".

There's so many out there I could pick, but some of them are Neil Gaiman, Anne Rice, G. D. Falksen, Toni Morrison, Francesca Lia Block and James Holland. Something tells me that there would be a chance of interesting discussions around that table.
